Welcome to the Kingdom of Glass short story writing project.

Originally this started as me wanting to create maps of the various neighborhoods in my city of Toledo, OH. It quickly turned into something a lot more intensive. While the goal remains to “remap” the city, as it were, I have decided to take on writing short stories for each of the various neighborhoods.

The going is slow right now because I usually only get a couple 20 minute bursts of time throughout the week. But stay vigilant and new stories and maps will come along.

Enjoy the reading.

Here it is folks. “The Bog“. It is the culmination of nearly six months of 10 minute spurts of writing, sometimes going weeks without touching it. At first my goal was to hit 3,000 words, then it was 5,000 and then somewhere in there it kind of exploded to over 7,000 words. This was suppose to be my pre-lead up to the lead up to NaNoWriMo. Meaning I should’ve had a story about twice as long done before now to start on the bigger project of attempting a 50,000 word project. Too many things got in the way, too many things to go into. Most of it was my own stupid fault. Nevertheless, November is here and while I won’t be participating in NaNoWriMo, I am not going to stop. So maybe next year then.

As for the story itself, again its a different form of writing with a different tone and a different perspective. It’s all about experimentation. For the first time I tried using names, and there’s a small amount of character development… all in all it is a good first attempt at a first draft.

The map kind of sucks, but that’s what happens when I am concentrating on the words. Next time around I want to finish the map first. Then try writing.

Enjoy, “The Bog

Just a quick update here. The next installment is nearly ready to go up. It has been too long in the works, and now it is time to get it off my chest. I just need a couple quick tweaks then an intro post and I’ll be ready, I think.

The Northtowne Wastes was (obviously) my second attempt in the continuation of this project. The map wasn’t so pretty as the first, but the story became a little more developed. Funny thing about the story. I had checked it off as finished, then this morning as I was browsing through what I had wrote, I realized it wasn’t. Really organization is one of my biggest faults with this project so far. So I put in a quick conclusion, but honestly I am not completely happy with it. I have a feeling I will be coming back to it eventually to hone it.

About the Northtowne Wastes

The “Wastes” as they are generally referred to now, was once a bustling megopolis. It was the center of all research and development in the realm. It was a highly ordered society, dominated by technology. Then, for no reason apparent to anyone on the outside they closed their borders. Rumors and conspiracies abounded…

It is these conditions that set the stage for legends to be born.

The Five Gods is the first installment of this project. As you can see the map is quite detailed and took me a good deal longer than it did to come up with the words that came with it.

About the Five Gods

The Five Gods region is a region that people are invaribly drawn to for no good reason at all. Once there, they wished they weren’t. Living there is something like purposely filling your bedroom with mouse traps every night and intentionally stepping on as many as you can in the morning.

The Five Gods, Enjoy.
